More cards from sketches

This card uses Tamara’s card sketch 83. Tamara has a great blog with lots of different challenges for card makers and scrappers. Check it out here.

This simple little card uses the cuttlebug swirls folder for the background. I left a section near the bottom unembossed to make space for the sentiment. The dog from Magenta is embossed and mounted on pop dots for a bit of extra dimension. I have been working in a lot of black and white lately so just to prove I can do colour here are a few more recent creations.

Sketches

I have recently discovered ‘card sketches’ and love using these as a starting off point for my cards. A favourite source of these sketches are websites and blogs that set them, often as weekly challenges. Split Coast Stampers have a weekly sketch challenge (they have different kinds of challenges everyday) and are definately worth a look – its a great sight with lots of stamping resources too. Their weekly sketch challenge is up to number 216. I had an idea to start at number 1 and do them in order, and here is my take on number 1:

The original sketch can be found on Split Coast site here in post 5. Check out the gallery for this and other sketches there is masses of inspiration there.

This card uses the Cuttlebug for dry embossing. The tags are stamped with a Hero Arts Christmas stamp and the pointsettias are constructed in 3 layers using a stamp that came free on Craft Stamper magazine, January 2009. This stamp was designed by Leandra Frainch from Paperartsy – one of my favourite stamp companies – go and take a look. Little stick on jewels highlight the centres.

Of course starting at number 1 and ‘catching up’ is completely unrealistic! but I can enjoy trying – I tend to dip in and out finding a sketch I like and going with that. There are plenty of other sketch challenge blogs and sites and I will introduce you to a few more over the next week or so.

black-and-white-12

This card was one of three made for a Black and White swap on Katys Corner yahoo group.

I used a Cuttlebug for the dry embossing, patterned paper and stamps from Clear Stamps. The little flowers are Primas I think and the squares were cut in the Cuttlebug using Nestabilities.

black-and-white-2

This little card uses the Cuttlebug again and a favourite stamp from Magenta that I have had for years. He’s embossed and cut out twice withthe second image raised on dimensional sticky pads. The stamped layer behind him is done with an old Hero Arts stamp and a mini swirl stamp that I have also had for a long time. I have no idea who makes it.

black-and-white-3

My third card for this swap uses stamps from a recent buy at Hobbycrafts but unfortunately I have mislaid the packaging and can’t remeber who makes these stamps. Cuttlebug again – I love this machines – and some dotty paper I have had hanging about for ages. I am trying to use up old stuff as well as buy new.

I had 3 lovely cards back in this swap from Chris, Mary and Vix. Thank you ladies.
