Collaborative Book

I am involved in a Collaborative Paperbag Book swap where participants make 24 pages 4.75″x4.75″ (12 each of two different designs). These will be swapped out with the paperbags and made into books. The theme is nature and these are my pages (I seem to have my own theme – trees – going here).

Made this for our ATC group. The theme for November was Edgar Allen Poe. ‘Marci’ from Stampotique seemed to fit the theme.

This ATC was made for a private swap group who make an ATC a month for 9 months and for 9 participants. This started in August and the first theme chosen by Pauline was Impressionism. I chose Degas (on the fringe of that movement perhaps) and this was my effort

More Meander Book Pages

I have spent this weekend (when not in the garden) finishing my Meander Book pages.

This is for Adrienne. Her theme was ‘Dreams’ which I found hard to interpret – I ended up just using the word ‘dream’ on the collaged heart. I wanted this to be in the style of Beryl Taylor, a mixed media artisit I really admire. The background was stamped with a text stamp and covered with organza. The background heart is made up of collaged papers, gessoed and embossed with gold. The next layer is paper coloured with distress inks and glimmer mists and the heart on top of that is padded silk. The piece is machine stitched and finished with beads

The next page is for Pauline C who chose ‘Nature’ as her theme. I found this one hard because of the background colour – for me lilac and nature didn’t go together too well although as I look around my garden I can see that there is plenty of the colour lilac around! Anyway this is what I came up with.scan0003

The background is stamped with a small ivy stamp and covered with tulle and vellum. The next layer is a dictionary definition of ‘nature’ that is coloured with distress inks and the leaves on top of that are stamped onto a background of wrinkled tissue paper and alcohol inks. I have used machine stitching and beaded the edge to finish.

My next page is for Eva. her theme was ‘Rainow’ and I got the Violet page. I couldn’t stick to just Violet and used a bit of yellow/ochre to ‘lift’ it. Hope Eva doesn’t mind.scan0001

Again I have used stamping, collaged paper background with distress inks, machine stitching and beading. The chipboard ‘flower’ is triple embossed.

My final page is for Maggie. The theme was ‘song titles’ and I picked one of my favourite Leonard Cohen songs – see this post – and an image of Mata Hari to go with it. Mata Hari’s story is a fascinating – she was an exotic dancer and courtesan who was executed aged 41 in 1917 after being found guilty of being a German spy.

Meander Book

This is page 3 and it’s for Annie who set her theme as ‘Play on Words’.

The pieces for each page are 31/2″ x 31/2″ and in my group are cut from pelmet vilene. The pages arrived already coloured so that when returned to the ‘owner’ the completed books go together with some colour cohesivness
